At Grace Christian University, we believe that knowing and obeying God is more important than anything else. That’s why all of our degrees include required Bible courses, and every subject is taught from a Biblical worldview. “The Computer Has a Virus!” is an eye-opening work by Ken Kemper, the president here at Grace Christian University.
The Computer Has a Virus!
Every one of us who uses computers and smartphones today employs security and anti-virus software to prevent the terrible effects of cyber viruses. In fact, cyber security is a flourishing business due to the reality of computer and online theft, spyware, and viruses that infect, compromise, and hinder your ability to do work on your device. Most likely you or someone you know has been impacted by these things in the past.
The subtle and deceptive attacks on you and your equipment are done by enticing you to click on any number of “opportunities,” emails, or private messages sent to you on your computer or phone. It only takes opening one of these corrupted links online to potentially compromise your information, crash your computer or smartphone, and lose security, money, or peace of mind. We all want to avoid this. No one ever goes out to deliberately seek to infect their computer system, yet it takes place regularly!
Every manufacturer designs a computer to run without problems and gives directions as to how to avoid such crashes or infections from viruses. The original operating system works well, and each update to the system seeks to further guard against more invasive viruses and cyber-attacks. Once a virus has control over a computer, it takes work to restore the intended operational effectiveness and intention of the computer or phone so it can function properly again.
God Created Mankind Sinless and with a Divine Purpose
We read in the first chapter of our Bibles,
“So, God created man in his own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them” (Genesis 1:27).
God gave mankind purpose to fill the earth, work the garden, and oversee all the animals and the created order on behalf of God. His perfect creation operated just as designed by the Creator and was made in His image. This was God’s intention in creating mankind and giving each of us intelligence, emotions, volition, and creativity just like the Creator. But… mankind rebelled and sinned against God,
Enter the “Sin Virus”
“Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned” (Romans 5:12).
The “sin virus” is pervasive to every human being born in this world, as is evidenced by the fact that 100% of us die from the effects of that universal reality. Each of us does wrong and every human institution is impacted by the virus of sin, including our churches and Christian organizations. The operating system and original purpose have been corrupted. It is because of this, that God sent His one and only Son Jesus Christ to die for the broken infected world – for us.
Christ is the Cure
“But God demonstrated His own love towards us, in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
This act of God makes it possible to redeem the broken people and purposes of God in this world. The Creator is not to blame for the virus, nor the results of the virus – human pain and suffering. He, in fact, offers the only real and lasting solution to the virus – salvation in Jesus Christ. The Word of God lays this out clearly, and there is no social or political plan or movement that can succeed without the plan of the Creator. Humanistic plans all fall short and make us feel like we are helping, but we’re just covering up and prolonging the dangerous spread of the virus.
If Covid-19 taught us anything it taught us prevention can be a losing task, but wholeness and health are healing. Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life, and no one comes to the Father, but through Him.
God’s Way is the Only Hope
At Grace Christian University, we believe soundly and unapologetically that God’s way is the only hope for mankind today. This is why we require each student to study the Scriptures and be confronted with the Gospel regularly, as well as attend chapel services and participate in small groups or discipleship on their athletic teams. An education void of those practices only ignores the virus and the need for the power of God in the lives of every human born into this world.
At Grace Christian University our work through higher education is to daily redeem the lost, transform the saved, and glorify Christ!
Faculty and staff dedicated to teaching, mentoring, and investing in our 700+ students who study on campus and online help make this happen.
