Wyoming, MI – The Grace Christian Softball team welcomed Cornerstone University’s JV team for double header on Tuesday afternoon. The Tigers would earn a split with Cornerstone.
Game One
The Tigers struggled defensively in Game One, as they gave up 9 runs in the second inning. However, they were able to score their 3 runs of the game at the bottom of the inning. A single by Emma Balkema drove Tammy Perrotta home for the first run, followed by a single by Renee Viles Gable, driving Kiersten Palmbos home. A third single by Skylar Lowe would send Balkema home for the Tigers’ third and final run. Grace fell 3-16 to Cornerstone. A strong offensive performance by Lowe included her 3 hits, one being a double, and 1 RBI. Palmbos and Lexie Alexander each recorded 2 hits.
Game Two
Cornerstone scored 5 runs in the first two innings, but the Tigers came ready to fire back as they tied it up 5-5 at the bottom of the second. Skylar Lowe had another strong offensive game, as she hit an in the park home run, driving in 3 runs at the bottom of the second. Grace scored 4 more runs at the bottom of the fourth, claiming a 9-7 lead. A single by Kenzie Brothers drove both Carlee DeVries and Alexander home. The Tigers defeated Cornerstone 11-8. Lowe ended the game with an impressive 6 RBIs, 4 hits, including a home run, and 4 stolen bases. Palmbos finished with 3 hits. On the mound, Balkema pitched 7 solid innings, striking out 9 with no walks.
Grace Softball is back in action on Monday, April 22 for a double header against NJCAA Alpena Community College. Games are scheduled for 2pm and 4pm.
