I want to talk to you directly. Choosing a Christian college in 2026 is one of the most consequential decisions you will make. And I am convinced that too many families are walking away from the right choice before they ever take a serious look.

Let me explain what I mean.

The Number That Matters 

I have heard it more times than I can count.

A student or parent sees the tuition number on a private college’s website. Their shoulders drop. They close the tab. They move on.

And I understand that instinct, I really do. According to Strada Education Network, 77% of Americans believe college is simply not affordable. That belief is driving decisions before families ever pick up the phone or walk through a campus door.

But here is what I want you to know: 

The number on the website is not your number.

Research consistently shows that the net price, what students actually pay after scholarships, federal aid, and institutional support, is often dramatically lower than published tuition. A figure that looks like $30,000 on a screen may become something entirely different once you sit down and ask the right questions.

The problem is that many families never get that far.

They make a decision based on an assumption. And assumptions, however understandable, are not facts.

You do not know your real number until you ask for it. So ask.

What Students Are Really Carrying

Underneath all the questions about cost and career outcomes is something I see in the eyes of students every time I walk across our campus.

They are unsure. They are comparing themselves to others, and are wondering if they are already behind. They are trying to make a decision that feels permanently consequential without having enough information or clarity to make it confidently.

And here is what I want to say to that student right now:

You are not behind. And this decision, while important, does not have to be made in a panic.

What you need more than the right answer is the right direction. And direction does not come from stepping back. It comes from stepping forward.

What a Christian College Should Actually Do

I want to push back on something.

A Christian college should not simply add chapel to a standard academic experience and call it faith integration. That is not what formation looks like.

This is formation. And it matters more than most students realize when they first arrive.

A Practical Word About How We Are Structured

I am also a pragmatist. I know that students are not only looking for spiritual depth, they are looking for a path to their future that actually works.

That is why decisions like No Friday Classes are not accidental. They exist so students have consistent time to work, manage their financial responsibilities, and stay healthy and balanced. The pressure of paying for college is real, and we take it seriously.

We also offer a second major in Christian Studies at no additional cost, because we believe every student, regardless of their career path, should graduate with a deep biblical foundation. That is not an upsell. It is a conviction.

Small class sizes mean students are known, not lost. Our location near Grand Rapids means access to internships, jobs, and a professional network that serves students well after graduation.

A Word to Parents

You are right to ask hard questions.

You should ask about cost. You should ask about safety, and about outcomes. Those are not obstacles,  those are your responsibilities as parents, and I respect them deeply.

But here is what I have observed across many years of this work:

The environment your student enters will do far more than educate them. It will build their confidence, inform their decision-making, form their relationships, and set the direction they take after graduation.

Students who are genuinely known and supported are more likely to persist. Students who are challenged well, not just academically, but spiritually and personally, are more likely to grow into people of character and courage.

That is where the true return on a college investment is found.

What Comes After Graduation

Every parent I sit down with eventually asks some version of the same question: “But what happens after?”

It is a good question. A responsible one.

According to College Board, students continue to see value in a college degree, but expect clear outcomes. 

Students who graduate from Grace do not leave asking, “What now?” They leave with direction, because throughout their time here, they have built relationships with mentors, developed practical skills, and gained growing clarity about their strengths and their calling.

Some go on to graduate school. Others step directly into careers in business, counseling, education, ministry, and nonprofit work. But the common thread is that they leave knowing who they are and why it matters.

Many students almost never come.

And what they discovered changed everything.
