Grace Baseball Sweeps Bay College To Finish Fall Strong

Oct 20, 2026 | Baseball

KENTWOOD, Mich. — Grace Baseball continued its impressive fall season with a four-game sweep of Bay College on October 16–17. The Tigers combined explosive offense, timely hitting and strong pitching to earn victories of 23-0, 14-5, 14-6 and 12-2, improving their fall record to 10-1.

Grace set the tone Friday with a pair of convincing victories before carrying that momentum into Saturday’s doubleheader at Kellogg Woods Park. Across the four games, the Tigers scored 63 runs and collected four wins to extend their strong start to the 2026 fall schedule.

Friday: Tigers Dominate Doubleheader

Grace opened the series with a 23-0 shutout victory, producing runs in each of the first five innings. The Tigers jumped ahead 4-0 in the first inning and continued to build their lead before erupting for 11 runs in the fifth to put the game away.

Gavin Kleidon led the offensive attack, going 3-for-5 with five RBIs. Ryan Gordon added two hits and three RBIs, while Ben Anderson collected two hits, scored three runs and drove in two. Grace finished with 19 hits and did not commit an error.

Alex Jimenez earned the win on the mound, helping the Tigers complete the shutout while limiting Bay College to five hits.

In the second game, Grace continued its offensive production with a 14-5 victory. After taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning, the Tigers broke the game open with an eight-run third inning. They added four more runs in the fifth to secure the win.

Anderson delivered one of the weekend’s standout performances, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Kleidon added two hits and three RBIs, while Gordon drove in two runs. Gavin Rider earned the win on the mound as Grace struck out 10 Bay College hitters.

The two victories gave the Tigers a commanding start to the four-game series.

Saturday: Grace Completes the Sweep

The Tigers returned to action Saturday and picked up right where they left off, earning a 14-6 victory in the opening game of the doubleheader.

Grace wasted little time getting its offense going, scoring seven runs in the first inning and adding four more in the second. The early outburst gave the Tigers a substantial cushion, allowing them to maintain control despite Bay College scoring three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings.

Anderson finished with two hits and three RBIs, while Gordon collected two hits. Tyler Kennaugh earned the win, and the Tigers used an early offensive surge to secure their third victory of the series.

Grace closed the weekend with a 12-2 win in the second game Saturday. After taking a 3-0 lead in the second inning, the Tigers broke the contest open with an eight-run third inning. They added another run in the sixth while holding Bay College to two runs on six hits.

Damian Fernandez led the way offensively, going 2-for-3 with a three-run home run and three RBIs. Dale Westphal added two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs. Reagan Mutschler also collected a double and scored twice.

On the mound, Ryan Mullins earned the win after allowing just one run over six innings while striking out seven. Reagan Gates pitched the final inning in relief.

Tigers Continue Building Momentum

Grace’s four-game sweep showcased the depth of its lineup and the team’s ability to generate offense in a variety of ways. The Tigers scored at least 12 runs in every game and recorded 54 hits across the series, while the pitching staff limited Bay College to a combined 13 runs.

Anderson, Kleidon, Gordon and Fernandez were among the key offensive contributors throughout the weekend. The pitching performances from Jimenez, Rider, Kennaugh and Mullins also helped Grace maintain control of the series from start to finish.

With the sweep, Grace improved to 9-1 in fall-ball competition after opening the schedule with a pair of wins over Sault College, earning three victories in four games against Calumet College of St. Joseph, and now sweeping Bay College.

The Tigers will continue preparing for the 2027 season with the confidence gained from another productive weekend on the field.
