The Grace Christian University softball team started their string of Spring Break games Wednesday evening with their first win in program history!

The Tigers defeated Berea College (NCAA DIII) by a score of 9-3. Freshman Emma Balkema recorded a complete game on the mound, with eight strikeouts and only four hits allowed. Renee Viles Gable and Carlee DeVries both hat two hits and two RBI’s for the Tigers. Balkema and Skylar Lowe each recorded two runs.

The Tigers would fall behind early in game two, and a strong finish would not be enough to upend Berea, as they fell 8-4 to split the series. Kenzie Brothers had a great game at the plate going 3-4 and added two stolen bases. Emma Balkema had two hits, including a triple, and also faced 5 batters as pitcher with no hits and three strikeouts.

The Tigers continue on today against Miami University (Hamilton) and Friday against Edison State Community College. Stay tuned, as weather may shift the timing of the games.
