Grace Martial Arts

Welcome to Grace Martial Arts!  Students who begin during Freshman year often earn Black Belt rank by Senior year (3-4 years of training), graduating with both a Grace degree and Black Belt!  Classes can be taken for college credit (PE) or as a club (intramural), allowing students to progress in rank throughout their college studies.  Students take martial arts for fitness, self-defense, to prepare for future police academy, or simply to make new friends.

Under the direction of Master Instructor Dr. Scott Shaw (4th Dan), Dr. Luanne Shaw (3rd Dan), and Bradley Webb (3rd Dan), our black belt staff instructors have classes from beginner through advanced Black Belt rank.

Dr. Shaw has trained for over two decades under Master Dwayne Flees, former military, law enforcement instructor and owner of KarateBuiltGR in Grand Rapids, MI.  Dr. Shaw also holds a 1st Dan in Shinsei Arnis jitsu (stick & knife) under the mentorship of Master Phillip Lewis, and has trained previously in Pukang Tang Soo Do, Aikido, Shorin Ryu Karate, Krav Maga and Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT).

Scott is a graduate of the 38th Police Academy at Grand Valley State University, and has worked in local and county law enforcement.  Scott has trained in PPCT's basic subject control curriculum including GAGE and bladed-weapon defense, and is a certified Instructor of PPCT's "SHARP" (Sexual Harassment and Rape Prevention) women's self-defense curriculum, offered at Grace Christian University every semester.
