Tigers Split With Olivet

Olivet, MI – The Grace Tigers traveled to the University of Olivet on Monday for a double header. Grace split with the NCAA DIII Comets, who are now 1-5.

Game One

At the top of the first inning, the Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead thanks to a single by Renee Viles Gable, followed by another single by Emma Balkema, driving Skylar Lowe home. Balkema was able to steal second, while a single by Lexie Alexander drove both Balkema and Viles Gable home. The Comets fired back in the bottom of the first with three runs of their own. They continued to score each inning, while the Tigers remained scoreless. Tammy Perrotta pitched all 5 innings, striking out 4. Grace fell 3-11 to the Comets. For the Tigers, Carlee DeVries and Perrotta also each recorded a hit, while DeVries tallied 2 RBIs.

Game Two

The Tigers would again jump out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Kenzie Brothers kicked it off with a double, followed by a single by Lowe. Lowe drove Kiersten Palmbos and Brothers home. A single by Viles Gable then sent Lowe home. A hit by Perrotta in the fourth inning put the Tigers up 4-0, but the Comets were able to score 3 runs at the bottom of the third.

Three more runs were scored by Grace in the fourth, including a double by Palmbos. The Tigers totaled 16 hits in their 10-7 victory over the Comets. Balkema pitched a strong 7 innings, striking out 11. Along with a double from Palmbos and Brothers, Lowe recorded 5 hits, Palmbos had 3, DeVries, Balkema, and Viles Gable each recorded two hits. Lowe also earned 3 RBIs.

The Grace Tigers will host Aquinas College JV on Thursday at 3pm for a double header at Kellogg Woods Park.
