ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT

I graduated from Grace Christian University in 2008 with my Bachelor of Science in Human Services. My time at Grace was one of the best times of my life. I met my husband during freshman orientation at Grace Adventures.  What started as a “camp” relationship, lasted our 4 years in college and is still going 12 years and 4 children later.

I made enduring friendships and have the best memories, including coffee dates with girlfriends, going to Meijer to window shop because we were broke, and being in PAWS the cheer group. My absolute favorite memories are all about the pranks.  Each morning brought the expectation of “what prank happened overnight?”  The best pranks were the cars in the quad with the tires removed, leaves in the breezeway, and the quad being TP’d.

I loved my classes, especially Professor Long’s Bible classes which helped me grow in my faith and walk with the Lord.  I learned so much in Dr. Shaw’s Group Counseling and still use a lot of what I learned today. The influence of Grace’s professors impacted my life in ways that they may never know. Dr. Schregardus was a mentor and support to me during a very difficult time in my life.

Since graduation my family has moved to Phoenix, Arizona. We chose Phoenix for a variety of reasons including that we hate snow.  However, the primary reason was to be close to the friends we made while at Grace.  We attend the GGF church in Phoenix and are blessed to continue to worship with our Grace Christian family. We have had many struggles along the way, with job losses and health concerns for one of our daughters, but through prayer and the support of our church and friends across the country we have made it through.  I now work for Grace Christian University as a remote enrollment advisor for the online program. I can honestly say that if it was not for my time at Grace Christian University I would not be where I am today or be the person I am today.

What I’ve Learned from Serving Others

Throughout most of my life, I thought I knew what it meant to serve. I believed serving was about doing things for others, helping when needed, volunteering my time, and occasionally going out of my way for someone else. But over time, through my experiences and time...
