In today’s rapidly changing world, educational institutions are striving to provide students with more than just theoretical knowledge. At Grace Christian University, we believe that it’s important to be an institution that goes beyond the classroom. More than just book knowledge, we want to empower our students to put their faith into action through a range of impactful initiatives. From community service projects to stay-at-home mission trips, we’re committed to nurturing compassionate and servant-hearted students who are fully prepared to impact the world for Christ.
Opportunities for Grace Students to Put Their Faith into Action Beyond the Classroom
Here are just a few of the ways that students have the opportunity to put their faith into action during their time at Grace.
1. Athletic teams serving the community
At Grace Christian University, our athletic teams enjoy getting out of the gym and working side-by-side regularly in the community. Through service projects in our local area, student athletes learn firsthand the importance of giving back and making a positive impact. Depending on the coach and team, athletic teams engage in various service initiatives.
2. Stay-at-home mission trips
We’ve had a great time partnering with ICCF Homes for stay-at-home mission trips. Instead of going home or taking the week off, our students have helped rehab houses in the community for low-income families. This includes projects such as demolition, hanging drywall, mudding, scraping, painting, cleaning, framing, and more. These hands-on experiences are a firsthand way to see and meet the needs right in our backyard.
3. Immersive educational and service experiences
Beyond the local community, Grace Christian University offers students the opportunity to make a global impact. With trips to destinations like Belize, Puerto Rico, Ireland, and more, students experience a blend of education and service. These trips facilitate cross-cultural understanding and allow students to connect with the global Christian community. By combining faith with practical action, students gain a holistic perspective on their role as compassionate leaders in the world.
4. Ministry requirements and practical application
A unique aspect of Grace Christian University’s curriculum is the integration of ministry requirements into several of our Bible and theology classes. This approach ensures that students not only develop a solid understanding of their faith, but also put it into practice. Through their involvement with dozens of churches and other organizations both nearby and around the world, students have the opportunity to apply their knowledge to real-world situations, honing their skills and providing an opportunity to grow in their walk with Christ.
5. Sustained partnerships and lasting impact
The dedication to service at Grace Christian University is not just a one-time effort; it’s a lasting commitment. The partnership with ICCF Homes, for instance, has continued for several years, indicating the enduring impact of these initiatives. It’s truly a joy seeing enthusiastic students coming back to serve even past the initial requirement. As students engage in service and witness the positive change they bring about, they’re more likely to remain committed to serving their communities and beyond even after graduation.
Courageous Ambassadors Beyond the Classroom
Grace’s mission statement is: “Graduating courageous ambassadors for Christ who make an eternal impact wherever they go.“
At Grace, we strive to create an approach to education that transcends the boundaries of the classroom. By encouraging students to put their faith into action during their time at Grace, students develop the lifelong skills of meaningful service. From athletic teams working together in the community to transformative stay-at-home mission trips and global outreach opportunities, students are equipped with the tools they need to be bold and compassionate leaders who impact the world for Christ.
