“But It’s Too Expensive!”

“‘But it’s too expensive!’

How many times have you said that in the last few months? I’ve certainly said it and heard it from others.

It doesn’t seem to matter if you’re pulling into the gas station, shopping online, looking at the prices on the menu at your favorite dinner spot, or opening your mail at home and seeing the last utility bill. Even the things we thought of as “essential” before are under consideration of how much we really need it compared to the higher costs of continuing to pay for it.

More Than the Cost, We Need to Consider the Value

I enjoy or value a nice warm cup of coffee in the early morning. However, I do not desire to go purchase it for $4 or more from a coffee shop to get it. I love to watch football games on television but am unwilling to pay for a sports channel or subscription to see my favorite team play every week. I really enjoy the lovely landscape and caring for the yard and gardens around my home, but would rather work and sweat to keep it nice and trim than pay someone to do it professionally.

In each of these scenarios, I have measured the importance and value and made a decision based on the long-term impact, prioritization of goals and lifestyle, and the benefits. Each of us does this regularly even when we choose how many desserts and candies we consume compared to the activity level and exercise we exert regarding our physical condition.

The Greatest Concern Regarding College Education is Cost

A recent study done by Echo Delta of over 400 U.S. adults born between 1965 and 1980 with at least one child considering higher education or in college yielded these conclusions (2023):

  • The highest factor negatively affecting trust in higher education is the rising tuition cost
  • The second highest factor affecting trust in higher education is student loan debt
  • The biggest concern about a child’s higher education is the cost of living

The value of what higher education brings to students and its result is understandably under great scrutiny. Large public institutions and even many religious colleges have failed to give a solid education and prepare students for the challenges of life and employment due to their secular agendas and godless ideologies. Thus, parents who are concerned about making good financial decisions and getting what is best for their children are skeptical about investing a large amount of money in higher education.

An Education at Grace Christian University Has Incredible Value

Our mission is “Graduating courageous ambassadors for Christ who make an eternal impact wherever they go.” Everything we do is to build up students to represent Christ in an upside-down world and live with integrity even when others are not living this way. The faculty and the staff all have this goal in mind—to grow students into disciples of Christ who exude grace and give it out daily. Our tuition costs, whether on campus or online, are much lower than every private college in our area. In addition, we offer to help students obtain financial aid to pay for their education without incurring debt.”
