Katie Carper

Katie Carper, class of 2018, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services from Grace Christian. Like her husband Dale, she also works for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. For the last year, she has been a foster care specialist.

In her role as a foster care services specialist, she works with families who have their children removed from their care and provides the families services in hopes of reunification. She also works with children whose parents have lost their parenting rights and helps navigate the adoption process, independent living options, or guardianship as a permanent goal for their lives. She has received multiple recognitions from MDHHS regarding her work ethic and leadership. Katie also serves on the board of the Gladwin/Ogemaw County Habitat for Humanity.

Katie shared that several professors were influential in her time at Grace Christian. She credits Dr. Scott Shaw and Dr. Jan Schregardus for growing her passion for human services. Katie shared, “I was able to learn more in-depth about the Bible from my classes and her classes paved the way for her to be able to apply to be a social worker 5 years ago.” She also has many fond memories of playing soccer and all the fun trips and relationships with her teammates.

Currently, Dale and Katie live in Gladwin, Michigan. They have two beautiful daughters, Madilyn and Lauren, and also own a small hobby farm with 14 chickens.
