No Classes on Fridays?!?!

Why is the Grace Christian University campus going to no classes on Fridays?

Grace Christian University will no longer have Friday classes once school resumes this Fall. There are several reasons for this decision, but the main thought is that it is a way to help make college more affordable by offering students that day to work or be more involved in internships.

Vision for Affordable Education

The vision at Grace Christian University is to provide “Every student the opportunity to design a path towards affordable education.” The no-classes-on-Friday policy is an important part of that plan because it allows more working opportunities for the student.

Adjusted Class Schedules

In addition to no classes on Fridays, classes at Grace will end at 2:30 on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Again, this gives the student more time for work, projects, internships, and studies.

Benefits for Students and Athletes

“Many students have weekend jobs and this allows them to start his or her weekend job a day earlier,” offers Kyle Bohl, Vice President of Student Affairs and Athletics, “it also benefits the commuter students—some who live an hour away—because they can save gas and time with a 4-day class schedule.”

“Another reason for the decision for the four-day class week, and the shorter days, is to help our university athletes,” Bohl continues, “this way they won’t miss classes due to practices or their game schedule and associated travel.”

Additional Reasons for the Four-Day Week

  • Promoting efficiency: Condensed classes can lead to better focus and more efficient use of time while students are on campus and more time for assignments and studies when they’re not on campus.
  • Providing a work/school/life balance: Allowing more time for relaxation, social activities, and self-care.
  • Encouraging independence: Promoting student responsibility by giving them more control over their schedules and time management.

Why Grace Christian University’s New Schedule is a Game-Changer

The shift to a no-classes-on-Fridays policy at Grace Christian University is a strategic move to enhance affordability, flexibility, and balance for students. By freeing up Fridays and ending classes earlier on the other weekdays, the university aims to provide students with ample opportunities for work, internships, and personal growth. This change not only supports students’ financial needs but also promotes a healthier work-life balance, increased independence, and better time management skills.

As the university’s Vice President of Student Affairs and Athletics, Kyle Bohl highlighted, “the new schedule is especially beneficial for commuter students and student-athletes, ensuring they have the support and flexibility needed to succeed both academically and personally.” Grace Christian University is committed to creating an environment where every student can thrive and design their unique path to an affordable and fulfilling education.
