Thinking of Transferring? Why Spring Is the Perfect Time to Consider Grace Christian University

Feb 6, 2026 | Blog

Most students consider transferring in summer or fall. That makes spring an overlooked opportunity, and potentially a strategic one.

If you’re wrestling with your current college fit, the months between February and May offer distinct advantages. Admission timelines move faster, and you can start fresh without losing momentum toward graduation.

At Grace Christian University, transfer students make up a significant portion of each incoming class. The Grand Rapids institution has built its mission around a clear calling: graduating courageous ambassadors for Christ who make an eternal impact wherever they go. Here, you’ll be equipped to learn, grow, and serve in your community and career.

The Spring Advantage

Spring transfer has become more common, particularly among students seeking smaller class environments or those reconsidering their academic path. Grace accepts students throughout the year, but spring presents particular benefits.

The admission process typically takes two weeks once all materials arrive. You’ll need official transcripts from all your previous colleges. The university requires a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA, though if you fall below that threshold you can petition for conditional admission. You’ll receive a detailed breakdown of which credits will count toward your intended major, eliminating surprises later and ensuring you’re ready to start classes in the fall.

A Community That Invests in Your Growth

Formation Chapels

What distinguishes Grace from larger institutions is the intentional community students describe. The 26-acre campus houses roughly 900 undergraduates, creating an environment where professors know you by name.

Emma Wodowski, a communications major, reflects on this intentionality: “I am continually blown away by how intentional the professors and students are at Grace. God has taught me through Grace that people matter, and how we choose to communicate has the power to change lives.”

That intentionality extends across programs. The student-faculty ratio stands at 15:1, enabling direct faculty interaction that often disappears at larger institutions. Zoe Hilton, a human services student, noted the difference: “The professors really care for you as a person. They don’t just care about grading your assignments, they want to see you grow. We do a lot of hands-on experience, getting outside and working through real scenarios.”

For you as a transfer student arriving mid-college career, that supportive environment can make the difference between completing a degree and dropping out. More than 90 percent of students receive financial assistance through funded scholarships, federal aid, and state grants.

Learning to Serve

Service-day-Serving

Grace operates on a distinctive academic model. Every student completes 30 credit hours in Bible and theology, regardless of major. If you complete the Bible core with grades of C- or better, you can declare Christian Studies as a second major at no additional cost, effectively earning two degrees in the time most students complete one.

John Michael Clark, a biblical studies major, described the program’s impact: “All the professors here are amazing, each with their own personality, but the same passion for God. They love to teach, they love their students, and they’ve poured so much biblical knowledge into me.”

For students in secular fields, the theological component integrates faith and profession in ways many describe as transformative. A business major explained: “The Business program at Grace is ministry-focused. It’s about learning how to use what you study to serve in any way God calls you. I really liked the community aspect and how Grace is so focused on ministry in every part of your life, no matter what you end up doing.”

The Transfer Experience

The university has structured its programs around transfer accessibility. Credits from community colleges, Bible colleges, and other four-year institutions can often be applied toward degree requirements. If you’re moving from community college, Grace offers several associate-to-bachelor pathways.

Grace offers bachelor’s degrees in business, communication, criminal justice, education, exercise science, human services, leadership and ministry, psychology, and other fields. Online and hybrid options exist if you need scheduling flexibility.

Emily R., an online psychology student, described why faith integration mattered in her field: “Going into a mental health field can be heavy, so I wanted faith incorporated into my career. That’s what drew me to Grace. The professors are great, very encouraging. It’s one-on-one, with wonderful internship opportunities and amazing guest speakers.”

Making Your Decision

If you’re at a larger university seeking more direct faculty access, or at a secular institution wanting faith-integrated academics, the shift to Grace represents a fundamental change in your educational environment.

Marc Paskiewicz, a transfer student, reflected on his transition: “Grace offers a lot of opportunities to get our foot in the door for your future career and make connections. It thrives off of community. I love the professors and I feel very equipped for my future. They are very encouraging and have multiple avenues to offer support financially, spiritually, and academically.”

Grace provides clear answers early in the admission process, and the spring timeframe allows you to make informed decisions without the pressure of summer’s compressed timelines. If you’re considering a change, February through April offers time to evaluate your options, visit campus, and connect with the community that could help you become the courageous ambassador you’re called to be.
