Harrodsburg, KY – The Grace Christian Women’s soccer team traveled down to Harrodsburg, KY to take on the Campbellsville-Harrodsburg Pioneers in the first match in regional play for the Tigers. Coming home with a 2-0 victory on the road!
This GCU Women’s Soccer squad has been battle-tested early on this season and as a result, has been dealing with some injuries which have resulted in players playing out of a normal position at times. Heading into Saturday’s match-up in KY, the Tigers were ready to find success and overcome any adversities on the pitch. They did just that!
When asked about the match, Coach Riemersma had this to say: “I was really proud of how our girls played today. Going on the road short-handed with some injuries and earring a clean sheet is no easy task. They didn’t feel sorry for themselves but had that “next player up” mentality. It was a bit sloppy and lethargic in the first half but we made a couple of adjustments at halftime that I thought the girls executed very nicely. Getting a conference win on the road is always challenging so getting this win feels good right now. We’re gonna enjoy this one for the rest of the weekend and then it’s back to work on Monday for another conference road game against Great Lakes. Overall very proud of our effort today”.
The goal scorers for the Tigers were Hannah Heyboer (goal 1) assisted by Alivia TerMeer. For the second goal, we had Haley Pilka finding the back of the net from a Abby Schwab pass.
When asked her thoughts on the match, Claire Tubbergen had this to say; ” We came into this game knowing we were down a couple of players. So we had to bring our all, we came out slow but picked it up the second half! We played for those who couldn’t and we got the job done! ”
The Tigers now set their eyes towards Great Lakes Christian on the road, Wednesday, September 21st. A long-awaited rematch for the Tigers.
