Before transitioning into academia, Mr. Mattson served as a lead pastor of a local church for nine and a half years. During that time, he was licensed and ordained in the ministry. In addition to his academic responsibilities, Mr. Mattson also works as a freelance editor with Zondervan where he has provided content oversight for numerous academic videos. In addition to film oversight, he has created content for a number of Zondervan’s academic courses such as Galatians and Know Why You Believe. He has provided manuscript oversight for James K. A. Smith’s’ book All Things Hold Together in Christ which was published by the Colossian Forum and Baker Publishing. Mr. Mattson’s research interests include: religious rhetoric; media effects on Christianity; theological discourse; and communication and technology.

Mr. Mattson has been married to his wife, Rachel, since 2001 and together they live with their three children in Hudsonville, MI.
