Notification of Rights Under FERPA

Grace Christian University’s policy governing privacy and release of student records is in compliance with the Federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.

The College has designated the following personally identifiable information as publishable information:

• Student’s name
• Hometown
• Grace Email address
• Dates of attendance
• Photograph
• Participation in officially recognized activities and sports
• Weight and height of athletic team members
• Honors and awards received
• The most recent educational agency or institution attended

A student may restrict the release of publishable information by notifying the Office of the Registrar. To restrict information from any printed or publicly available document or information source, a student must contact the Office of the Registrar before final registration of the Fall semester. Students have the right to inspect their education records within 45 days after submitting a request; seek amendment of the records they believe to be inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise in violation of their privacy rights; consent to disclosures of personally identifiable information contained in their records, except to the extent that the law authorizes disclosure without consent; and file a complaint concerning alleged failures of Grace to comply with the law. One exception which permits disclosure without consent is disclosure to school officials with legitimate educational interests who have access to all official records on students. Otherwise, determinations as to whether there is a need to know shall be made by the office which has primary responsibility for maintaining the information.
