Christianity Is a Contact Sport

Aug 30, 2024 | Blog

Christianity is a contact sport. You need to be taught, trained, and equipped. Just like athletes, Christians must prepare for the field. This journey demands active engagement, discipline, and resilience. Believers aren’t spectators; they’re players. They face spiritual battles head-on. With the right coaching, drills, and gear, and gear that we can be best prepared to make an eternal difference for Christ wherever we go.

Suiting Up for the Big Leagues

Think of your faith like you’re gearing up for the championship game. You wouldn’t just walk onto the field without training, right? The same goes for your walk with Christ. Here at Grace Christian University, we’re your personal trainers in faith. We’ll equip you with:

  • Firm Bible knowledge – your playbook for life. Just as athletes study their playbooks to know every move and strategy, Christians must immerse themselves in the Scriptures. Understanding God’s Word is foundational to navigating life’s challenges and making informed decisions that align with your faith.
  • Apologetics skills – so you can confidently discuss your faith. In a world where beliefs are constantly challenged, knowing how to defend your faith with grace and truth is essential. Our courses in theology and apologetics teach you to articulate your beliefs clearly and respectfully, helping you engage in meaningful conversations with people from all walks of life.
  • Leadership opportunities – to practice what you’re learning. Leadership is about serving others and making a positive impact. Through various leadership roles on campus, you can apply what you’ve learned in real-world situations, honing your skills and growing in confidence.
  • A supportive community – your teammates in this journey. Christianity is not a solo sport. Surrounding yourself with fellow believers who encourage, support, and challenge you is crucial. At Grace, you’ll find a community that walks with you through the highs and lows of your spiritual journey.

Getting in the Game

Let’s be real – it’s easy to sit in the stands and cheer. But God’s calling you to get on the field. Here’s how we help you step up:

  • Mission trips: have you ever shared your faith in a different country? Talk about stepping out of your comfort zone! These trips not only broaden your perspective but also deepen your faith as you see God work in diverse contexts.
  • Community service: Because love isn’t just a feeling, it’s an action. Serving others in your local community is a tangible way to live out your faith. Whether it’s volunteering at a food bank, mentoring at-risk youth, or participating in community clean-up projects, your actions reflect Christ’s love.
  • Campus leadership: Lead a student group and learn to navigate real-world challenges. Leading a group on campus prepares you for future leadership roles in your career, church, and community. It teaches you to manage responsibilities, work with diverse teams, and solve problems creatively.

Facing the Opposition

Look, we get it. Living out your faith isn’t always easy. You might face doubt, criticism, or just feel overwhelmed. But here’s the thing – courage isn’t about not being scared. It’s about doing it anyway.

At Grace, we don’t shy away from the tough stuff. We tackle questions head-on, equipping you to stand firm in your beliefs while engaging respectfully with others. As the apostle Paul said, “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong” (1 Corinthians 16:13). This scripture is a reminder that the journey of faith requires courage, strength, and bravery.

Your Team Has Your Back

You’re not in this alone. At Grace, you’ll find a community that supports you, challenges you, and celebrates with you. From late-night study sessions to worship nights that’ll give you goosebumps, you’ll build friendships that last way beyond graduation. These relationships provide a network of support, accountability, and lifelong connections that enrich your spiritual journey.

The Postgame Impact

Here’s the real deal – what you learn and live out here doesn’t stay here. Our grads are out there making waves in their careers, communities, and churches. They’re living proof that a faith in action can change the world.

Alumna Angela Banks, who once operated her own real estate and nonprofit organizations, now serves low-income seniors and those with mobility issues at Tanner Terrace Apartments in Phoenix, AZ, where she works as a Service Coordinator for Tanner Properties. Since graduating from Grace in 2020 with an Associates Degree in Human Services, Angela has been inspired by her compassionate and knowledgeable professors to support her residents with the necessary services to help them age in place.

Heart of Service

Service is at the core of our mission. At Grace you participate in community outreach programs, volunteer opportunities, and mission trips that allow you to practice and develop a servant’s heart. By stepping out into various communities and serving those in need, you learn the true meaning of selfless dedication, much like an athlete gives their all for their team. When you focus on serving others, you learn to embody the love of Christ in all your endeavors. We believe that true greatness comes from serving with a humble heart, and we are dedicated to developing a heart of service in every student at Grace.

Your Move

So, future Grace student, are you ready to take your faith to the next level? To not just believe, but to radically live out your faith? To be the hands and feet of Christ in a world that desperately needs hope?

This is your invitation to join a community of believers who are serious about making a difference. At Grace Christian University, we’re not just preparing you for a career – we’re preparing you for a calling. Our mission is to equip you with the knowledge, skills, and spiritual depth to impact the world for Christ.

Ready to get in the game? The ball’s in your court. Check out our website, schedule a campus visit, or hit us up with your questions. Our dedicated faculty and staff are eager to walk alongside you as you explore your calling and grow in your faith.

Remember, in this game of life, you’re not called to warm the bench. You’re called to change the world. Let’s do this! Together, we can make a lasting difference, bringing the love and hope of Christ to every corner of the globe.
