Grace Christian University’s values include Bible-centeredness, Grace theology, ministry focus, and transformational relationships. We exist to graduate courageous ambassadors for Christ who make an eternal impact wherever they go. Let’s take a dive into the history of the college and the mission of Grace to find out more about how these values came to be.

Our History

Our history at Grace Christian University dates back to 1939. Charles F. Baker started Grace as an evening Bible institute. At this time, the main purpose of the institution was training Sunday school teachers and church members of Fundamental Bible Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

In 1945, the organization expanded to become Milwaukee Bible Institute, a day school. In 1953, it was renamed Milwaukee Bible College, at which point curricular options were also added.

The move from Wisconsin to Wyoming, Michigan happened in 1961. This was when it became Grace Bible College and was granted authority from the state to give Associate and Bachelor of Religious Education degrees, as well as a five-year degree for vocational ministers.

Grace then received accreditation from the Association of American Biblical Colleges (now called the Association of Biblical Higher Education) in 1967. Since then, Associate of Arts degrees, Bachelor of Science degrees and Master of Arts degrees have been added to the degree programs.

The university added online education in 2010. This allowed students to further their education exclusively online.

In 2017, the college’s directors unanimously voted to change the name from Grace Bible College to Grace Christian University. This change officially took place on July 1, 2018.

Our Mission

At Grace Christian University, our mission is to graduate courageous ambassadors for Christ who make an eternal impact wherever they go.

From the beginning of its history, Grace has been dedicated to teaching the Bible and encouraging individuals to serve God.

We know that we live in a world that does not value God’s Word. We believe that Christ followers should have the opportunity to receive an education that’s grounded in the truth of the Bible. Grace exists to equip students to stand on the truth in a world of compromise and confusion.

Our core values are:

  • Bible Centered
  • Grace Theology
  • Ministry Focused
  • Transformational Relationships
