What Are the Benefits of Earning a Master’s Degree?

People choose to earn their master’s degree for a variety of reasons, including earning a higher salary, growing their knowledge in their field, experiencing greater job security, and even to provide the option for a career change.

Wondering what a master’s degree can do for you? Here are a few more reasons why you may choose to go back for your degree.

Career advancement

A master’s degree is an excellent way to propel you forward in your career field. Not only does it increase your knowledge in your field, but it also shows your employer that you have the drive and commitment to work hard and be responsible.

When an employer is looking to fill a higher-level position, those with master’s degrees are usually the first ones to be considered.

Servant Leadership was one of the many courses I took while at Grace, and this course better prepared me for the career of law enforcement and ministry that I’m currently working in. In order to be the best leader I was created to be, I learned that I can never lose my servant’s heart.

Higher earning potential

In addition to having greater opportunity to achieve a higher position in your career, a master’s degree also increases your potential to earn a higher salary. Whether you plan to stay at your current job or look for a new job, holding a higher degree can greatly increase your chances of earning more income per year.

In fact, one study found that “the earnings increase from the bachelor’s level to the master’s level is approximately 20%”.

At Grace I have been presented with many opportunities to learn and grow. It’s only through God’s faithfulness that l am here and I’m thankful for the 4 years He’s given me to pursue my degree and grow closer to Him in such a wonderful community. l’ll always remember and remain thankful for the time I spent at Grace.

Personal development

Aside from the career benefits that come from earning a higher degree, a master’s degree also aids in personal development. Working on earning your degree helps to develop greater independence and self-motivation. It also encourages a sense of lifelong learning.

I pursued this degree in an effort to continue to develop my ability to serve God by leading my congregation. I have always enjoyed engaging deeper in issues related to faith and the church and saw this degree as a challenging way to do this.

Greater credibility

Lastly, a master’s degree can give you greater credibility to both your employer and others around you. It shows that you are a hard worker and have accomplished much.

Earning a master’s degree demonstrates that you have worked heartily and diligently and often shows that you can be trusted in greater work and ministry opportunities.
