“I was a student at Grace Christian University (Milwaukee Bible College) from 1956 to 1960. Back then student life was regulated more than now. We had to be in our room at 7:00 PM and lights out at 10:30 PM. And there was no leaving the campus! However, the student council received permission to build a ‘Snack Shack’ in the basement of the Tower House (Administrative Building and Faculty Offices). All kinds of snacks were sold. And—here’s the important fact—we could open it up from 10 to 10:30 PM! That let us out of the dorm for 30 minutes before ‘lights out!’
The snacks we had were the usual: candy bars and soft drinks. Another rule was that freshmen living on campus could not have a car. Another: students could not attend a movie at a movie theater; another: we could only have one date alone per week. If you have access to the 1958 and 1959 ‘Ambassador” you will see pictures of the ‘Snack Shack’ or ‘Jupiter Inn.'”
